Reading these Hendrix-meets-Coltrane reviews, I couldn't resist this weeks Cuneiform Reecords special-offer. Again... ;-)
And yes, among many other things and the bands very own handwriting, at least in places above mentioned comparisons are valid. And while guitar and sax may take center stage, double bass and drums shine, too!

This record has such a magical flow to it, it seems to capture so directly the ups and downs of life, the joy of music and dance, and it's just so damn catchy and fun to listen to as well. Giles

I love this band...tight,wholly integrated, endlessly inventive with striking compositions. All their Intakt albums (there are 3 and counting) are wonderful and this one sees, for me, Tom Rainey in outstanding form (I loved his work in Tim Berne's Trio - check these out on Tim's Screwgun label)...Laubrock mixes the muscular and sinuous with the compositional and who can resist any opportunity to listen to Mary Halvorson? (I can't!).

On this sprawling double LP, the South African drummer leads his band through a series of mournful and vibrantly melodic spiritual jazz compositions. Bandcamp Album of the Day Jul 6, 2020

Free Jazz at its best. Only discovered Tim Berne recently. I love the tension between structure and improvisation on this live album. You get extended really crazy improvisations out of which a structured driving riff will appear. Its really thrilling! Like tension exploding! So yeah, I love Bloodcount but I realise this wont be for everyone 😁. Crinklechips
